Follow-up consultation

step 5
Follow-up consultation
If you have HPV and any abnormal cells, you will be referred to a gynaecologist. The likelihood that you have cervical cancer is still low.

Referral via the GP

Make an appointment with your GP for more information about the results and for a referral to a gynaecologist.

Further examination at the gynaecologist

The gynaecologist will examine the cervix to gain a better understanding of the situation. It is possible that a biopsy will be taken for further analysis during your first appointment. The biopsy will be analysed to investigate the grading of the abnormal cells and whether further treatment is needed.

Frequently asked questions

A follow-up consultation with a gynaecologist is not part of the health screening. The costs relating to this examination fall under your health insurance. You may have to pay the costs or some of it yourself. This depends on the level of your insurance excess and how much of this you have used. If you have any questions about this, please discuss this with your healthcare insurer.
